MY PROCESS:
FINAL PAINTING
A Bridge to a New Beginning” 40 x 30″

First sketch, Second sketch/mini painting and Color Palette
My creative process is important to both of us for a successful outcome.
Commissions are very personal and require a dual effort between the client and myself. Often times the pieces have specific meaning to the person who commissions the artwork. so communication is critical in producing an end product that the client is excited about.
A Commission with me starts with a client meeting. We discuss size, placement, color, composition and subject matter as well as any personal details that need to be added. We also discuss the type of visual the client is looking for and if a reference is needed for the painting. The client shares all of their expectations to make sure I can deliver the best possible results.. The contract is discussed and reviewed in person to avoid any confusion and with clear deadlines set.
Once the criteria for the commission is established and the contract is signed, I send 2 preliminary sketches. The first sketch is either a value study or a quick color study. In this particular commission “A Bridge to a New Beginning,” color and subject matter were of utmost importance so color was placed in the initial sketch. Once the drawing was approved on direction and subject matter, a small painted mini mock up is provided to make sure the client is on board with the palette and style. At any point in the sketching phase client feedback is welcome. After the second sketch is approved, I begin the large scale project- in this case a 40” X 30” commission.
And I start the painting!
The client is given updates and previews when I think it is beneficial. The client will be given an opportunity to have revisions.. Upon a finalized piece, the piece is varnished and framed if requested.
Thank you in advance for considering working with me. I look forward to making your vision come to life.
What I do
"The process of creating revives my soul—
it's a gift to myself."

Let me work with you to create a custom portrait. My portraits are normally derived from multiple photos of the person and veer into fantasy and abstraction.
My Abstracts are inspired by nature. They may take on various styles, marks, and symbols.
My landscapes are primarily derived from visions I have seen and experienced in Virginia and North/South Carolina as well as from Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. My scenes often cast a spell on me- I feel like I am discovering the magic of each place all over again when I paint the scene.
As an adamant gardener, most of my still life painting derives from the gardens I frequent and tend, as well as from the animals that live there. I take lots of pictures as reference, to be able to work in the seasons where I can’t be in the garden or in parks.
